Camino de Santiago – Sacred and Miraculous

Camino de Santiago, the French route of the Pilgrim’s Route to Santiago de Compostela, O Cebreiro has a Grail some consider to be sacred and others to be miraculous. A must in O Cebreiro is a visit to the pre-Romanesque church, the oldest remaining fully intact on the Pilgrim’s Route to Santiago de Compostela, and which contains a Holy Grail.

The churches bells rang during the winter to guide the pilgrims through the mists. You should also stop by the San Giraldo de Aurillac lodging house, without a doubt the most frequented after Roncesvalles since it has been in operation since the 9th century.

Camino de Santiago, The French Way of the Way of St. James enters Galicia from León through the municipality and passes through the village of O Cebreiro. The village has some pallozas, including one that houses a small ethnographic museum. The Royal St. Mary’s Church, also known as the Church of St. Benedict, was built in O Cebreiro in 1965–71 on the foundations of a pre-Romanesque church rediscovered in 1962.

O Cebreiro Albergues

After a long day of walking though, gotta say, we didn’t love O’Cebreiro. I guess we had high hopes of a beautiful mountain town but when we got there, it was beautiful but filled with tour busses. All the hotels were full and the Albergue had its bunks pushed together so you might be sleeping with someone you didn’t know. This turned out to be a Galicia thing where it happened a lot as you got closer to Santiago but we were not ready for it that day.

Camino de SantiagoI found this shot to represent an image of a lot of places along the way. A backpack and poles outside a door. Usually, a lot of backpacks but this one looked nice and neat this way.

Hope you enjoyed. Adios.
