Vacation Escape or Life Planning?

Is it a vacation escape or running away? Have you ever wanted to run away from home, just say screw it to the world and go? Yep, me too. So why don’t’ we? I love my family but some times I just want to run away. But no, we stay in our humdrum lives and keeping working 9 – 5 paying off the bills. I bet MasterCard couldn’t find me in South America if I tried hard enough.  So what’s stopping me?

What is there to fear?

You go on a vacation once a year maybe to escape the stress or “get away”. One week maybe even two weeks, what about longer? If you are gone longer than two weeks is it still a vacation or an escape? You hear all the quotes, you only live once, better to die with memories than dreams, or my favourite, all our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

So why don’t we pursue them? I’ll tell you, one-word FEAR. Fear of failing, fear of being made fun of, fear or the unknown. I’ll admit I fall in that category of fear and am not sure how to get out, yet!

What if there were no consequences to leaving it all behind and nothing stopping you. It wouldn’t be a vacation anymore it would be a way of life.  I bet we would all trade in the snow and daily grind of a 9 – 5 job for sun and surf.

Retirement vs. Vacation planning

Yes, I am going to be 46 and fear that if I don’t go know I never will. I am not sure I can be one of those people who say I will when I retire.  Because let’s face it I am not sure I will ever be able to fully retire and never work. Contract jobs mean no corporate pension.

So I am life planning, not vacation planning. I am one of the lucky ones who has a great husband who can retire at 55 with a full pension, just 6 short years. YEARS, I can’t wait for years who’s with me on that? So, my life plan is to move somewhere hot – not too hot though. We want to get the feel of an area so we will stay for 3 – 6 months before moving to the next city or country.

Choice One Peru

We are looking strongly at Peru, specifically Trujillo. We both loved Peru and there is so much to explore. Not only that it is easy to travel to many other South American Countries. We are planning on a few more trips to other places as well such as Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Ric to see what there is for retirees.
