Travel and Events 2021?

How has Travel and Events changed?

Travel and Events, a new blog topic today. You may have read on my blog about my travels, adventure, and planning. Climbing mountains or walking long distances. But what you may not know about me is that travel is not my only passion. My second passion in life is events.

Travel and Events changed in 2020. I fear for the foreseeable future they will remain changed. So how has the event planner adapted to the new way of holding events? Like many other travel and event professionals at home and around the world I have been let go due to COVID.

At first, I thought this was a time to relax, enjoy a new grandbaby, spend some time doing home projects, that sort of thing. I was worried in July I was a CMP, Certified Meeting Professional I had tons of experience and I was sure that I would find another job. July continued to August which slowly moved to Sept, Oct, and now November, and still nothing. Events just aren’t the same! I’ll admit I was getting depressed, worried about finances, and frankly just bored of being home.

Travel and Events – Moving on!

It’s now January 2021 and the world is still at a standstill for travel and large events. So where do we go from here? How do event planners, travel agents, wedding planners, conference planners move on in the new virtual world? It’s not as simple as learning a new online platform, there are literally hundreds of platforms, software’s and programs out there. Not to mention the cost of them. Some can be an easy fix with a free zoom or can cost upwards of thousands to implement. Then there is timing, training, and implementation how does a small event planner or event company compete?

Have Events Changed for the better?

I miss the interaction, meeting new people talking in person. Zoom just isn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong some events have been able to easily move to the virtual world and take advantage of this. But hosting a conference, a sporting event, or even a wedding just isn’t conducive to the virtual world. I have seen some great learning tools from organizations like PCMA but they cost so much there is no way someone like me could afford them while not working. But to get this education may help find a job, an age-old conundrum.

Hamilton is Home for Events

I am a Hamiltonian through and through and have always loved seeing events in my city. All events from a parade to a festival or large conference. It is all exciting to see a large crowd of people wandering the city exploring everything we have to offer. That’s why I can’t wait for this COVID to be over.

There are some exciting events on the horizon here in Hamilton. From the 2021 Grey cup to the 2026 Commonwealth games. Bringing events to Hamilton has been and will be again joy in my life.

Will we see Travel and Events again?

Travel is something we look forward to whether it is a weekend getaway or an all-inclusive in the Caribbean or planning for another epic adventure. I look forward to the break, relaxing and enjoying some fun, sun, and surf. Although I fear travel for many will be on hold for a while. And what will the travel look like when we can go. I don’t think we will ever fly again without wearing a mask. I loved to help people as a travel agent plan the best vacation or the adventure of their dreams.

Stay Safe Hamilton, wear a mask, and limit your bubble. I know it’s hard for many including myself but if we all do our part, we can get through it and come out better and stronger on the other side.
