Aquanauts Dive Adventures – Puerto Morelos
On our most recent trip to Mexico, we decided to dive with Aquanauts Dive Adventures. I was able to get in eight dives over four days. Diving in the area around Puerto Morelos was pretty fantastic. Reefs and fish are plentiful. There wasn’t a dive where I didn’t see enough to blow my fins off. My favorites are Paraiso, Fish Market & Aquarium. All are between 35′ to 45′. Our deepest dive was the C-56 – Juan Escutia Shipwreck. We reached 87′ at the deepest.

Aquanauts Dive Adventures is a small, family-run business located in the Hotel Hacienda Morelos. The dive office is a short walk from the Puerto Morelos town square. (They also have a boutique on the edge of the square). Just offshore is the Parque Nacional Arrecife. Puerto Morelos is just a 40-minute drive from Cancun or 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Most of the dive sites are 15 – 20 minutes from the beach.
Oh, the sites you’ll see.
The variety of sea life was stunning. There were barracuda, moray eels, lots of lobsters, puffer and trunkfish. There were also “puddle of fish” according to our Aussie guide. I thought of them as a “cloud” instead. You will also find a wide variety of corals. (ok, so I’m still kinda new at this)
Our third dive was to the shipwreck, Juan Escutia. This WWII era US Navy minesweeper was sunken in 2000. Sadly I missed the eagle everyone else seen. Apparently, they like to swim around the wreck in the wintertime.
The staff of Aquanauts Dive Adventures
The people at Aquanauts Dive Adventures were great. With two awesome, enthusiastic dive guides, Felicity and Martin I learned so much in my four days. They helped me with my trim & my buoyancy. By the time I left for home I had much more confidence in all my skills. The administrative side is run by Crescent who is both efficient and laid back. I guess living in the tropics with a view of the ocean does that to you. She helped us book all of our dives prior to leaving home and then accommodated any changes as the days progressed.
