Camino Photography Travel Uncategorized

A Matter of Perception

I’ve been working through my photos in Lightroom and came across this one. I’m pretty sure it didn’t look this way the morning I took it but liked the end result after tweaking it.  Is it right to post it as “Artsy” or should I be posting “As Seen”?  I’m struggling a little with this because I originally started this blog to chronicle my Camino adventures and that means “as seen” to me. Since then it’s evolved into more of a place to show the photos I’ve taken Along the Way of My Life, both past and present.

Should travel photos be true to the time of capture or should I bring my vision to this blog?

Please let me know what you think.  After all, we post to WordPress not just for ourselves, but for the people who read and follow us.

Thank you,

Jeffrey Everets.

Ansel Adams tweaked his photos too. He just use a different technology with “dodging” and “burning” in a physical darkroom. Your image above is a beautiful photo.

I agree, that is a beautiful photo. I think that nothing can truly replicate what we see with our eye; any photograph we capture is already somewhat altered from what we see. So many photographs- both yesterday and today- were/are “tweaked” (especially now with Instagram and filters, etc). Plus, two different cameras taking the same shot will often produce different images.

You were on the Camino, you saw that sunrise (sunset?), and you took that photograph. I think that the rest is up to you, and how you choose to edit or not, and what you choose to share with your readers. I love that you are bringing your vision of art and photography to your blog!

Thanks Nadine. Never thought about different equipment causing different images but that makes a lot of sense.

Thanks Alan. Funny thing, as a young photog I was never an Adams fan. Now I’m older (and hopefully wiser) I appreciate his work much more. I may have to revisit some of my old books for a second look.
